Down The Road

Latest Release: h ttps://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0DYVVZHS6 Down The Road   (Memoir) A passion project honoring the Brummet & Rotar families by sharing a collection of memories written by family members, spanning 4 generations.    Opening with Dave's grandmother, Maria, who bravely travelled alone from a remote Romanian village to meet & marry a man she didn't know. It continues with the life-story of her eldest son Tony Brummet, a Canadian politician.  Continuing the saga, her second son Frank shares his memories starting with tales of growing up in the Okanagan Valley, where he later raised his children - including Dave. Dave closes the book with an emotional look at how this memoir impacted him, that he would have never known about their lives in this way with out their written tales that they left behind.   Get your copy today @:  https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0DYVVZHS6

reader's comments

Poetic Wanderings - reader's comments "Currently, I’m savouring Poetic Wanderings by Lillian and Dave Brummet. This collection is a gentle journey that evokes the feeling of a bee flitting from bloom to bloom, reminding us of the simple pleasures often overlooked. The poems invite readers to revisit cherished memories, with lines that stir up sweet melancholy and nostalgia.  Themes of childhood, solitude, and the passage of time are interwoven with reflections on life and death, prompting deep contemplation. I am enjoying the lighthearted anecdotes mingled with more profound thoughts, making each poem resonate on multiple levels.  The poet's  ability to capture the beauty of nature alongside the complexity of human emotions makes this a delightful read." Thank you Donna Sundblad for this powerful feedback! She published her comments HERE

Memoirs impacting future generations

Drop in the link below to read my article about the impact of family memoirs, which was published on the Pumping Your Muse Prompts blog run by my writing friend Donna Sundblad   Donna & I met way back in 2010 I think it was, and we have been networking and collaborating ever since.  This article about the impact of memoirs is very personal to Dave and I because we are releasing a trilogy this summer that contains Dave's father's and grandmother's memoirs.   https://pymprompts.blogspot.com/2023/02/the-impact-of-memoirs.html ~~~   Discover the Brummet's Books on Amazon :  https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B0845RLK1X  Find Them Online via :  https://taplink.cc/brummet  https://linktr.ee/LillianBrummet ~~~

The weight of grief

-- Pet Grief Poem -- Today I'd like to share with you a poem that Dave's dad Frank Nick Brummet wrote when we were grieving our first dog Skylo. Yesterday's post shared the journey we underwent with our grandma dog Skyla. Yes the names are similar. After Skylo passed on nearly 13 years ago, we found Skyla in the paper a few months later - listed as available through the local SPCA. It felt like a sign - the similarity in names... and so she joined our home 12 years ago. This poem, however, is about the previous dog. Weirdly, since poetry has always been my emotional outlet,  I've never been able to write one about the heavy grief from pet loss as it hits me far to deeply. I can tell you it sits on your chest like an elephant's foot, each breath burns deep in the chest and the world becomes fuzzy and grey while your focus is on grief. It fades somewhat with time, but the pain resurfaces at the most unexpected times. Skylo's passing was shocking - as he darted aft...

poetry

-- Poetry --  Every once in a while I like to share a little poetry on our site. Today I'd like to share one of my favorites from the collection of my father-in-law's - Frank Brummet. Frank has been writing poetry as a hobby for most of his adult life. Delving into the hobby more fully after retirement, he has now written hundreds of poems and enjoys experimenting with many different techniques. At his former residence he was heavily involved with the local writer's group. Today, you might spot him at local Creston, BC (Canada) events reading poetry at places like open house talent shows, seniors centers and more.  To Paint Love I would paint love on a canvas of caring,  Mixing colours on a palette of promise. The red of passion, the blue of longing, The green of life in the meadow of hope. I would depict mountains of joy, A cool river bubbling with music, Flow of laughter from happy children. I would paint the tree of together, With arms to...

The Writer, poem

-- Poetry -- Today's poem comes to us from my father-in-law, Frank Brummet... in this poem he shares insight into the mental workings of a writer.  The Writer You pass on the street, he looks quite normal, Yet on closer inspection something is awry. With furrowed brow and restless eyes He is somewhere else, far removed. Busy creating, composting, constructing. He moves in a haze, his steps automatic,  His destination unsure or unknown. If you could see behind those eyes,  Excise the frontal, expose the brain, Therein a mass of waiting words, Partial sentences, tangled metaphors, Similes, musical sounds that rhyme, All milling about, eager to find The path that leads down the arm To the pen or computer keyboard. The gate opens, the current flows Onto the paper or over the screen. Then the editing, cold and cruel, Killing the trite clever phrases, Cut and shorten and rearrange, Making sense of original garble ...
