Green Global Society

-- Quote of the Day --  "If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You have another chance."  ~ Andrea Boydston  -- Positive News --  Solar, wave and wind power - the top contenders in creating a greener global society. While advances in technology is enabling tighter, smaller, more efficient models, the fact that there is so much interest is helping too to bring the price down.  Helping this is the battery industry, who are sparked by the driving influence of the public demand for electric cars. The more people get on board, the more the price can come down and technology can improve.  Yet another tool that is advancing this cause is the increasing demand from consumers for LED and other energy conserving lighting and heating equipment. By reducing the home's need, and increasing technology's efficiency, offering alternative ways to get green homes greener - we can definitely (so the scientists say) speed up the...

Alternative energy for lights

-- Quote of the Day --  “To cherish what remains of the Earth  and to foster its renewal  is our only legitimate hope of survival” ~ Wendell Berry -- Positive News --    --> Now here is something very cool for those of you interested in alternative energy sources and new lighting technologies that I learned of from Japanfs.org An innovative office equipment manufacturer, Green House Co., launched a new LED lantern product that can generate electricity using only water and salt. This product doesn't even need dry cells to store the energy, there are no batteries to charge. Simply by pouring some salt water into the lantern, little ions travel up a metal rod of magnesium to a carbon rod and that simple act generates enough electricity to power the 55 lumen light. How cool is that? -- Conscious Living Event --  Jan 28 – 31 US Composting Council 21 st Annual Co...

Education & Lighting

-- Quote of the Day -- “…I started tutoring kids when I was in college and I found that I just enjoyed being involved with them. …My first teaching job involved working with a class of 5 year olds and I got in trouble for being too creative with the kids. – And my attitude was ‘Why cant we teach them organically as things of interest comes up?’ I had to do the exact same thing with them every day and they were bored out of their minds. …For me, the one-size-fits all in education just doesn’t work, because nobody is the same. …[Teaching them] how to learn, instead of what to learn – and they will know how to learn for the rest of their lives. …Honoring who the kids are as people. ”  ~ Kristen Johnson Today's quote originates from the May 10th interview titled Arts & Youth .  *Access the archived Conscious Discussions Talk Radio show at your convenience by clicking on the hyperlinked show title. -- Positive Eco-News -- Now here is so...

E-waste & Easy Eco-Projects

-- Positive Eco-News -- During the most recent Positive Eco-News segment of Conscious Discussions Talk Radio , one of the listeners mentioned some curiosity about e-waste... and I wanted to follow up on some of this today. Of course we've done several shows in the past on this subject, interviews with professionals in the e-waste industry, however I saw an ad by the return-it.ca program for electronics recycling here in BC (Canada) and found that the program has grown quite a bit.  Display devices (such as monitors and TVs), desktop computers, portable computers and computer peripherals (such as keyboards and mice) are all recyclable. This has grown to include: scanners, printers, fax machines, non-cellular phones and answering machines, vehicle audio and video systems, including speakers, home audio and video systems including record players and speakers, personal or portable audio and video systems such as ghetto boxes and cameras. – Wow! - Lots of things are accepted...

Save $ with CFL's

-- Quote of the Day -- "I love stuff as much as the next guy, but I’ve come to understand that, regardless of the cost of acquiring it, the price of having it is freedom.
