human & animal rights

-- Conscious Living Events -- Today is the annual celebration of the International Day for Tolerance , which began back in 1995, sparked by the creation of the United Nation's Year for Tolerance , and celebrations officially began in 1996. This day was set aside to promote awareness of the dangers of intolerance. The importance of this awareness day is explained by the following excerpt from the UN's Declaration of Principles on Tolerance :  " Resolving to take all positive measures necessary to promote tolerance in our societies, because tolerance is not only a cherished principle, but also a necessity for peace and for the economic and social advancement of all peoples ."  Education seems to be the key to peaceful living and includes understanding our rights, developing empathy for others, and countering hateful information that influences fear, judgment or violent behavior. A Global Wave of Positive, Proactive Living

-- Quote of the Day --  “ The changes that I have seen since the early 60’s have really been mind-blowing – It is a great privilege to me to have lived to see these changes. They are way beyond what those of us who started expected. At that time we were basically improving the conditions for women… and getting equal pay for equal work. But we did not contemplate that equality would enter every sphere of our lives the way it has happened, and the way it continues to. …There is still a tremendous amount to be done. We haven’t done anything really in regards to childcare… we still have tremendous problems with poverty… violence against women and children… and women over seas – much has to be done to improve their status. Work remains – but a tremendous amount has been accomplished. …Men are increasingly becoming more involved in the home and the raising of their children. …Sweden is {leading the way and} has paternity leave for men, and men take it and use it and play muc...

Check out the Conscious Discussion and Authors Read radio show archives when you have time. ...And don't forget to browse our main site as well: www.brummet.ca - where we've d...

Human Rights, Environmental Consciousness & Water Conservation

-- Quote of the Day -- “… I am a mom, and I’m a normal person that just decided that I was getting really tired of the doom and gloom about the environment. ….I just decided that I wanted to make a difference; having my own children that are young, I wanted to hopefully leave the world a better place for them by making my small difference. …As a mom, sometimes you feel like you are not making a difference. But you really are, as hard as those days are, you know, when you are changing diapers and changing laundry. …a lot of people out there are cynical… a lot of people don’t want to change because they are so used to their lifestyle. …The children have power, they have choices, and they can make a difference. They are the ones who are going to be running the country for the next generation. …Animals are so in tune with the universe, whereas humans make everything just so complicated. …They teach us what true love is. …Ghandi used to say that if you want to see a change, you need to be t...
-- Quote of the Day -- Re: equality & a healthy society “ …These (Super-Sized Cycles brand) bikes can hold up to 550lbs. …The tricycles are great for older clients (and those with physical limitations) they might have had a stroke or something… so these are very safe, you don’t have to worry about balance. …Electric assist bikes means that there is a motor to carry the rider, but you also peddle. It is more of a regular, consistent workout – and you ride faster. …1/3 of the United State’s population is obese, another 1/3 are overweight – and this is similar to most English speaking countries… even in countries where you wouldn’t necessarily think because they are not necessarily well off. …There is a huge problem with the overweight in this world …I am concerned with assisting these people to live the life that they have got. …I think it is so important for us to be able to do what a non-heavy person can do. …I think people don’t realize the ways in which fat people are discrimin...
