Poverty

Did you know that today is a very special day... It is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty ... 30th anniversary, in fact. For 30 years this special day was set aside to raise awareness for everything from human rights, child development, lower income, health, discriminations, housing, job creation and education to food sharing. Take a look around your local surroundings and you'll likely discover thrift shops you can donate your excess to. Those shops in the basement of a church, or a small corner shop in town often help support health services and fight poverty right in your community. Most of us can start opening cupboards and drawers, go into storage areas, bookshelves and magazine racks, look in the dark recesses of our closets and find things we haven't used in a couple years and aren't likely to use in the near future. Cleaning, repairing if necessary, and donating to these organizations is a fantastic way to get involved.  You might find that y...

Empowering, Enabling People

-- Quote of the Day --  “There are plenty of people with a passion…but if they are not willing to work hard for it they cannot be upset that they didn’t reach their full potential. Work hard, after you have set your goals and found your passion – work hard. …if they want greatness they are going to have to do great things every single day. …You have got to do your research; you have got to find a mentor, even an indirect mentor so you can follow their footsteps. …When you find it is what you want to do – there are certain steps that need to be taken. …Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game. You miss 100% of the shot you don’t take. If you really want something there is going to be some risk to reach out for your goal, there is going to be some fear you are going to have to face, there are going to be obstacles that you are going to have to face. …When you stay in your own little world contained you fail to realize the opportunit...

Sustainable community

-- Quote of the Day -- “…The soup kitchen is the last stop on the way of getting food for the day. This idea struck me when I was at the water park and I asked them what they do with the lost towels and clothes they find on the grounds that people leave behind on the ground – it ended up being 3,000 towels in 3 weeks. …I took this a step further and asked the gym I go to what they do with their items, the manager took me to the back where there were three 55 gallon size bags of t-shirts, clothing, towels etc. …This is crazy that we have so many resources out there to help the poor (that are being thrown away). …The problem is that if the food is dated, the stores have to chuck it. …Major super markets have to get rid of the stuff, but they don’t have an organized game plan where groups can come and pick it up. …There is such a gap between resources and paying it forward.” Tony Marren Today’s quote originates from the Conscious Discussions Talk Radio episode that...
