Eco-resources, composting & climate change

-- World Environment Day -- Wow! Today is World Environment Day!! We are also in the last few days of Canadian Environment Week - a great time to look at how we can make a difference in our own lives for the planet. Our book Trash Talk is filled with ideas, the ideas in just one chapter can save the average individual enough money to pay for the book! Trash Talk discusses the 4-R’s of waste management and the proper order for them. This being Refuse, Reduce, Reuse then Recycle… before we even consider sending the item to the trash bin. Trash Talk focuses on the third R, Reuse – which also saves people a lot of money (through reduced shopping, reduced utility bills...) and provides a way to make a real and measurable contribution towards a healthier planet. The book enables readers to feel more positive in life and leave a lasting legacy. Check out the table of contents, reviews and more information about the book at: www.brummet.ca/trashtalk.html -- Apologies -- I do have to mak...

Animal Rescue & Poetry

-- Conscious Discussions Radio -- Today's Conscious Discussions show focused on the Second Acts Foundation , a non-profit organization, which distributes 100% of the donations to animal rescue groups across the US, in fact they’ve reached animal rescue groups in every single state in less than two years. Their focus is on small, volunteer run groups that adopt the no-kill policy. Today we learned about starting a non-profit organization like this, how to manage education, staff, volunteers and fund raising. We learned about the amazing proactive projects Second Acts has been a part of. Our guest Michael Brown is the Founder & CEO of the Second Acts Foundation - & he was very generous in sharing websites, resources and touching success stories. Eco events, resources & news !!!

-- Quote of the Day -- “…It is so hard when what you do for fun is also what you have the privilege and honor to do with your career. …It is because of that day off thing – that mind rest. …you will come back better, you will be refreshed, etc. If I don’t I will not write well. These are the things that are within our power to manage. …There has been hard scientific research on the power of mirth – to laugh. …The reality is we have more things to do than we have time to do it. The only thing we do have control over is our energy. …Take the time to do the things that give you the energy to do the things you want to do. …The universe has nothing but good intentions for you, so why not have good intentions for yourself? …It is ok to need helpers; helpers are great - don’t let them become crutches, but… ask for help, it will be okay. …Just as addictive patterns feed themselves, so do healthy patterns – it is the change that is the challenge. …States of being like joy, love – those are fee...

Inspiring Caring & Sustainable Communities

-- Announcements -- Dave & Lillian's book Purple Snowflake Marketing was featured on Holly's Great Authors page: http://hollydfarlee.webs.com/greatauthors.htm *This book will be released in a revised, updated 2nd edition in the very near future. -- Eco & Conscious Living Events -- Today, June 2nd, is Clean Air Day & Hunger Awareness Day (Canada). Incidentally all week long, June 2-8, we'll be celebrating Bike to Work Week . In our small city we are fully aware of the limitations for cycling. Few safe lanes for cyclists, narrow side streets... busy highway and long open sections of road ways with no shade from summer heat. However, the city staff has greatly improved many of the bike friendly parks and the Trans Canada Trail (made on the former railway track beds) also runs through the city and has been greatly improved as well. Tree planting is encouraged every spring in the daily newspaper's gardening segment and many community groups have done planting...

Bicycle & environment celebrations

-- Canadian Environment Week & Bicycle Month !!! -- June is officially Bicycle Month , a great time to take the family bicycles in to your local repair shop for tuning and repairs to make the outdoor experience more enjoyable. Alternatively look for a youth group, high school or college that has bicycle repair classes - these alternatives may provide a more budget friendly alternative for today's economic climate. All week long here in Canada, from June 1st through to June 7th, we celebrate Canadian Environment Week . In honor of this I wanted to share some inspiring community actions that have happened in the last year here locally. Several times over the last year Dave and I have witnessed groups of youth walking around the streets in the downtown area armed with bags and cleaning up as they went. We could all learn from this selfless act. Did you know that wind and traffic-caused breezes carry waste from inland to waterways (creeks, rivers, oceans, bogs, etc)? Astoundingly,...

quote & events

-- Quote of the Day -- “ The patient has to realize that they are going through an emotional and physical challenge, they’ve got to be more patient with themselves and accept what’s happened. …With that they have to understand that some of the medications are affecting the way they think, they way they sleep, the way they feel. …To be aware of what is going on and be in good communications with the team of specialists. …Progress can be made in baby steps at a time. It is not always the big gains – it is the little things that we do every day to enhance our success and achievements. …Lower your stress, and lower your expectations of other people. What is patience? It is the true understanding of the way things are, for now. …Allow time. …we have an immediate and urgent need, when we are in pain we want it to go away .” ~ Rosemarie Rossetti - April 14, ’09 Today's quote was taken from an interview with Rosmarie Rossetti on the Conscious Discussions talk radio show focusing on the t...
