Communication & Green Schools

-- Quote of the Day --   “ In life we tend to hear of or read of other people’s successes, not their struggles. So in listening and understanding their struggles, I believe that we can create a dialogue, and have insight into others. …What I’m seeing in society is that we are all being guided by what we see or hear on television. …The art of discussion is becoming a lost art. …A group of people having an insightful conversation can bring about a lot of answers to a lot of questions. ” ~ Klarque Garrison   Today's quote came from the Surviving Today’s Busy-ness interview that aired on the Conscious Discussions Talk Radio show back on Oct 12. Check out the archived interview via the hyper-linked title, or visit www.brummet.ca for a full list of Conscious Discussions Talk Radio show archives.   -- Green Schools -- Results from a first-of-its kind school waste composition study provide valuable insight on the best targets for reducing waste and improv...

Conscious Living w/ Pets & People

-- Quote of the Day -- “It is so easy to give up on others when they begin to make mistakes or offend you in some way. You may do this before you know who they really are and what they’re ultimately capable of doing. However if you stick with them through thick and thin, the people you are in relationship with will feel safe to grow and learn. They will realize that mistakes are not fatal, but a natural part of the process of learning.”  ~ Brenda Shoshanna, author of: Fearless -- Brummets In the Media -- Kyla Duffy of Happy Tails Books invited me to do an article on the Up for Pups blog - http://upforpups.org - re: Conscious Living With Your Pet . Up For Pups is a community of artists pooling talents for animal advocacy and rescue fundraising. They focus on delivering the message that dogs and cats are not "crops" or "things" and should not be treated as such. -- Conscious Discussions Talk Radio -- Today's guest : Stephen Victor - a te...

Managing a Blog

-- Guest Article -- Today's post was contributed by Beth Hull; mother, author and manager of the Stealhy Elf Blog at: http://BethHull.com Beth hods a BA in English and a Masters in Linguistics; she has written two novels and is looking for publishing opportunities for them. Today she shares a humorous look at managing a blog. The Stealthy Elf A blog is a beautiful thing. Readers and writers can connect, share advice, and be entertained. But if you aren’t careful, a blog can take over your life. I like to think of my blog as a stealthy little elf. Not the charming kind that helps me get work done like those handy shoemaker elves, but the kind I have to keep happy, keep feeding, keep devoting one of my most precious resources (that is, time ) to. It didn’t start out that way. I’m a writer, and I hope to publish a book someday. Creating a website seemed like a necessary step at the time, a way of getting my name out there and interacting with other readers, writers, and pu...

Recycling News

-- Quote of the Day --  "The Significant problems we face, Cannot be solved by the same level of thinking That created them." ~ Albert Einstein     -- Positive Eco-News --  Have you heard of RecycleBank yet? I learned of this organization a few months ago; apparently there are some Canadian cities looking to work with the organization in the near future - which I think is a really interesting idea. Once a RecycleBank program is put in place for a city, the residents begin receiving awards for recycling. The city benefits from savings in garbage and recycling services, and landfill costs. The local businesses are receiving more traffic due to award points being cashed in at local retailers, grocery stores and shopping centers.  The system has successfully been employed in more than 300 locations throughout the UK and the US, where they have experienced increased recycling rates by as much as 130%, and savings of over $100,000 within the first few mo...
