oops!

Hi everyone!  I know I've been a little remiss in keeping up with the blog posts every single day... I get a post in most days, but not all. ...I apologize for that.  The thing is we've just released a new book and there is a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on at the moment... including website updates, which eat up a lot of time. The garden season is right around the corner and I'm starting seeds for that... while balancing all of this and home life with working on another manuscript - a book offering green and conscious living recipes along with tips, nutrition information, etc. So my time slips away and then I realize - OOPS! I missed a day on the blog. Anyway I'll do my best to rectify this time issue, but if you visit here and I've missed a day - please do forgive me and keep coming back as I'll offer new and interesting information the next day... or scroll through the archives while you are here...  in appreciation, Lillian

Recycling

-- Quote of the Day --  “Perfect valor consists in doing without witnesses that which we would be capable of doing before everyone.”  ~ John Kennedy  -- Recycling Made Easy -- A lot of businesses are becoming aware of the importance of recycling, and may also be aware of how much money they can save with this one simple action – however they may not have efficient systems set up, enabling their workers to participate. The first step to setting up efficient systems is to fully understand the recycling programs that are available to you. Schedule one of your employees, or a summer student helper, to put in a couple hours of research starting with the city website where links to recycling and reuse programs will be listed. Have a list of manufacturers and suppliers that you tend to use and ask that staff member to find out if any of them have take-back programs. For instance, the printer manufacturer may have an end-of-life program ...

Crafters - Making a Difference

-- Quote of the Day --  “[Volunteering] gives you a sense of purpose. … I think that most of us are trying to achieve [filling] the loss of community, the sense of belonging. …We have about 115 chapters and from there we have a lot of offshoot groups and companies that join us each year, not official chapters but they participate. …Don’t limit your donation to blankets – anything can be used to make a difference if it is from your heart. …We’ve had restaurants feed us, we’ve had Starbucks companies, bakeries, all kinds of companies that join to make our events possible. In one of our events we had 75 volunteers and we made 195 blankets, we had 40 sewing machines – people were on the ground cutting fabric, pinning things, handing them to the people on the sewing machines… It reinforces that what ever your company does it can fit in with something we do. …Do something for somebody else; make cards to take to a senior’s center, make calls to people you have...

Solar Energy, Within Our Reach

-- Quote of the Day --     “ I, for one, truly believe that individuals can make a difference in society.  Since periods of great change such as the present one come so rarely in human history, it is up to each of us to make the best use of our time to help create a happier world. ” ~ Tenzin Gyatso, H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama -- Positive News --  Did you know that: - Solar energy accounted for nearly a third of all new electricity generating capacity installed in the U.S. in 2013? - More Solar has been installed in the last 18 months than in the previous 30 years? - Parking lots in the US equate to more space than all the highways and roads in the entire North American continent?  ...Imagine if every parking lot installed raised solar panels that not only shaded the parking area and reduced Urban Greenhouse Effect (because the pavement and cement would be cooler) but also generated power for surrounding buildings and ...
