Poetry Time

Poetry Time Elephant Visit I woke to find a familiar weight on my chest It pressed and crushed the air from my lungs, Shredding and shattering something inside; I felt the crackle and the sharp stab in my heart. My chin drops, I glance down at my chest  To see the familiar grey, wrinkled foot The ivory toes spread across my chest. As my eyes travelled upwards, our eyes met Hers full of regret, remorse, sympathy, empathy... ...Sorrow. Mine full of the awestruck knowing, it has come. Yes Grief , the elephant, visited me again And I do not feel angry... this time. I saw Grief's compassion  Her eyes spoke to me " I am sorry, but you must go through this ." It made me think of the dentist, having recently been... Does she, hands loaded with syringe and tray full of tools, Does she say to herself:  " I am sorry, but you must go through this "  Just before entering the abyss? Yes Grief, the elephant, visited me again. Though her stay was quite brief The ache of my lung...

Celebrating our canine friend

This week, we mourn the passing of our old grandma fur-baby, Duchess.  She came to us via a pet shelter where she was surrendered to, I believe, because she was not working out as a farm gate-protector... all chained up protecting the gate. She was not even 3 years old, and she met her older "sister" here, Skyla (who passed about a year ago), and Duchess stuck by my side ever since - helping with everything I did, protecting me from garden earth worms, and chasing flies, playing and rolling in the grass and showing that soft furry belly every chance she got.  She was never a very athletic dog, she just wanted to be near; she loved food and was often guilty of harvesting from the garden, however we didn't mind too much. 13 years old in one month... she didn't quite make her birthday.  Apparently the beach play was an exertion for her that her little heart said that was enough. I could tell yesterday morning that she was hurting and we needed to give her meds and call t...

quote of the day

Quote of the Day  © BrummetMedia.ca "A preoccupied family:   they  none of them  threw themselves into the interests of the rest,  but each ploughed his or her own furrow.   Their thoughts,  their little passions and hopes and desires,   all ran along separate lines.  Family life is like this : animated,  but collateral."   ~ Rose Macaulay: Daisy & Daphne (1928) ~~   Visit the Brummet's   Main Website Find them elsewhere online  HERE   ~~

Author Interview

World of Writing - Interview Thank you, everyone, for joining us today for an important interview with a young author, Alivia Jones -  here to talk about her first book. More importantly, her message relays comforting advice for people dealing with an  anxiety disorder and/or Aspergers.  I have an anxiety disorder myself and believe me the mind is constantly judging, whirling with tasks yet to be done, whirling about finances and relationships and every single thing you can imagine going back to as early as I can remember. haha. That is one active brain! But the issue comes in when that brain activity causes stress, sleepless nights and upset tummy. Worse if those dreaded panic attacks arrive and all the oxygen in the air seems to disappear. We also have a nephew who deals with a mental disorder and so we are very connected to the topic that will be presented today. Alivia enjoys writing, drawing, doing crafts, swimming, fishing and hanging out with friends in her free t...

Kudos

Kudos A shout out to the Pollinator Partnership Canada organization.  This past summer their community planted thousands of habitat gardens with  5,500 native plants sown in West Toronto neighbourhoods alone.  Next year they are focusing on an exciting project - Bee City Canada - where municipalities sign up and develop resources, projects and programs to protect pollinators.  Check out some of the activities hosted by this organization via Instagram  and discover other places they can be found online via:  https://linktr.ee/pollinatorpartnership.ca ~~   Visit the Brummet's   Main Website Find them elsewhere online  HERE   ~~
