celebrating: International Mountain Day

International Mountain Day was established by the UN in an effort to help manage fragile mountain ecosystems back in 2003.

Most of us are aware that mountains provide the vast amount of fresh water, energy and food, but they are also threatened by encroachment, forest and soil degradation.

This day was set aside to that scientists and government officials can discover the global challenges and find sustainable answers.

Biodiversity, eco-tourism, land remediation, planting projects and litter-clean-up projects can provide some of these solutions.

This is a great time to consider the role you might play in this... perhaps you can support a tree planting organization, join in an invasive plant management group, gather the family to clean up a trashy spot, join in local environmental groups and trail management groups, and help increase awareness... I'd love to hear what you might suggest too... so be sure to comment and leave some suggestions for people to consider.
