Poetry Time

This monthly series began more than a decade ago in an effort to encourage the joys of poetry. Here we celebrate other poet's work, as well as our own. If you would like to submit, simply visit the ABOUT page for guidelines & contact information.

WORDS

Vocabulary on a wheel

Mumbled words spat out in a spiel,

Yet very rarely are they real.

Understated over-mused

Is it comprehension - or compromise?

Better hope they’re big enough in size!

So often stated,

That they’re underrated.

And so, false meanings are then created.

Try to sound sincere

Yet holding back words in fear,

From being too often jeered.

So many sums lead to so many substances.

Hard to force yourself to take the chances,

And all hell breaks loose if there’s wrong glances.

Despite it all the truth is not truly heard.

Because of the wrong combinations of words,

An ironic wheel of confusion is needlessly churned.

**  Have you ever noticed how crazy the English language is?

Each word can be interpreted by the listener according to their perception and experiences in life.

Beyond this, we have such a strange way of using words.

For instance we “love” our car, our job, our wife, our kids, our dog, our mom... but each of these are entirely different emotions – yet we have one word to describe them all.

The 1st book in the Playing With Words series offers poetry that makes your heart shake - yet leaves you filled with inspiration and hope.

A real-life story of growing up in a traumatic environment and the healing process discovered through writing.

Takes readers on an epic journey of valiant survival told through vivid scenes poured from the heart ...with nothing held back.
