Get Out Of The Rut #5

Today I'm continuing the discussion we've been having for the last couple months re: overcoming difficult stresses like moving, grief and depression.  This is the fifth installment in the Getting Out Of The Rut series.  Now that we have settled in to our home somewhat, I am able to set aside a short amount of time every morning just for myself.  Taking a cup of coffee, I take a seat on our front steps where the shade is deep due to the cascading branches above. Sipping from that cup I giggle at the girls antics (our dogs) and gaze in amusement at the chittering squirrel family rushing to and fro. The sprinkler going, of course, this early in the morning adds a certain charm to the scene.  Coffee done, I roll out the mat on the decks entry carpet and begin a series of stretches. Taking deep breaths I let go of the strain, I clean my lungs and listen to the soft peals of music. Then I start my day.  I have always found solace, comfort, a sense of solidarity when s...

Today's featured guest is fellow Canadian author,  Chantal Bellehumeur  - who has 19 published books of various genres that you can find on  Amazon . Chantal has written in many different formats, genres and has experimented with many different venues from short stories, memoirs, poems to articles featured in compilation books, in eMagazines and her local newspaper. She invites our readers to visit her on  FaceBook  as well.  " My poetry is different than most in the sense that it usually reads like a story. Leaf Angel which was inspired by my struggle with depression and how I turn my mood around. It was meant to be fun and inspiring. ...the picture is me making a leaf angel. I think I may have invented that. (lol) " Leaf Angel I hid my sadness behind a fake smile raking coloured leaves into a neat pile. I didn't know why I wanted to cry On this nice fall day with a clear blue sky. The tears just randomly crept up on me but I thought it best not to set the...

We attract what we fear

We attract what we fear * Today's article was submitted by our monthly contributor Elise Smith (a.k.a Sheila) who has several books available on Amazon . Elise invites our readers to reach out to her via FaceBook . Today, she explains how our fears impact our lives. The things we most love and most fear will tend to occupy our thoughts much of the time, so will we tend to attract those very things. Have you ever totally ruined a new suit of clothes the first time you wore them? Just as you were thinking to yourself, “I don’t want to dirty this lovely new shirt of mine ”, your ballpoint pen was leaking blue ink into your top pocket. If we say to our mind, “ I don’t want “A” to happen, we will gravitate toward “A”. Our mind cannot move away from anything, only toward something. A magazine recently published an article about a New Yorker by the name of Pete Torres who, at the time of publication of the story, had been mugged fifteen this year. This we believe may be some dubiou...

Depression, Prizes & Buy Nothing!

-- Quote of the Day -- “… It (Chronic Depression) can be very difficult to recognize if you don’t know what to look for. Depression is basically a long period of feeling hopeless with extreme sadness and despair. Chronic Depression also comes in many forms - as insomnia; people with chronic depression are preoccupied with thoughts or feelings of guilt or regret and many times self-hatred. In my case I had very poor self-confidence and poor concentration and memory as well as the anxiety that started out in me grew into a depressed state. …As far as children, I find it interesting that… depressed children often display an irritable rather than a depressed mood. And this is often not noticed until many years later. …For me my anxiety level rose so high it inhibited my ability to concentrate and this was what then sent me into clinical depression. ” ~ Tom Riddell Oct 20, 2009 Today's quote of the day originates from a Conscious Discussions Talk Radio interview that aired on Oct 20, 2...
