Get Out Of The Rut #5

Today I'm continuing the discussion we've been having for the last couple months re: overcoming difficult stresses like moving, grief and depression.  This is the fifth installment in the Getting Out Of The Rut series.  Now that we have settled in to our home somewhat, I am able to set aside a short amount of time every morning just for myself.  Taking a cup of coffee, I take a seat on our front steps where the shade is deep due to the cascading branches above. Sipping from that cup I giggle at the girls antics (our dogs) and gaze in amusement at the chittering squirrel family rushing to and fro. The sprinkler going, of course, this early in the morning adds a certain charm to the scene.  Coffee done, I roll out the mat on the decks entry carpet and begin a series of stretches. Taking deep breaths I let go of the strain, I clean my lungs and listen to the soft peals of music. Then I start my day.  I have always found solace, comfort, a sense of solidarity when s...

Aging & Caregiving

-- Quote of the Day -- “ If you live 72 years, that is about 26,000 days. So how are you going to live your life knowing that there is an end in mind? You need to live… in the moment… exponentially… cruelty free; we need to live urgently, …and to love each other. …It is not the number of days in your life it is the life in your days. And that is the way we should all live.  …Make your last will and testament even if you are 20 years old and healthy. …You need to make an Advanced Health Care Directive - …You have ultimate control until your last breath. You are the bus and we are all in the seats, we have to do what you want. …This way you know you are going to control how you are going to live and how the end your life is going to be .”  Damiano Iocovozzi, Sept 28 Today's quote originates from the Hospice & Health Care interview that aired on the Conscious Discussions Talk Radio show back on Sept 28, 2010. Water Awareness & Caregiving

-- Apologies... -- Apologies to our blog readers - Thanks to all who wrote to let me know that the link on yesterday's post for the interview on Book Cubby was not working correctly. I have edited yesterday's post so it should be working now. And here's that link for the interview once again... (sorry about the error!) -  http://www.thebookcubby.com/authorinterviews.htm  -- Water  Awareness -- Today, June 8th, is World Oceans Day - and we are also in the middle of Rivers to Oceans Week . Appropriate - I suppose with what is going on in the oil industry... but they are far from the only polluters. Of course this last disaster is really beyond imagining and we might look at something like that, such as industries pouring pollutions or cities and boats pouring sewage into the ocean, and we might start feeling like the little things we are doing won't make a difference. But they really do.  Awareness celebrations for waterways are a great opportunity to increa...
