Understanding Networking, part 2

Understanding Networking, (part 2) *** Check out Part 1 of this discussion, published on Feb 5th. Networking means you need to have something to offer. Will you include their name in your ad?  Can you feature some aspect of their business activities, policies or community projects on your e-bulletin?  Are you able to partner with them for a special sale, or get your staff together for a volunteer activity?  Can you collaborate on a community fundraiser?  How might you distribute each other's coupons or send referrals to each other?  Will you refer customers to them? Can you offer them great resources, for no other reason than to just help them out? Can you introduce them to someone on your contact list? Perhaps you can be a mentor, provide advice, offer services, discounts to their staff, coupon exchanges.  Can you hold sales on the same day, referring customers to the other store's bargains? Can you collaborate on events? Can you collaborate on sharing ad ...

Understanding Networking, part 1

Understanding Networking, (Part 1) Understanding what networking involves is vital, you need to know about and be prepared for the hidden behind-the-scenes activities that make it all happen.  There is a lot to consider before rushing out and sending out something that could be considered spam, instead of a valuable networking opportunity. You don't want people to work hard, or get confused and give up - jeopardizing your relationship or current campaign. Networking needs to be as effective and efficient as possible.  Even in the very beginning of networking - the entrepreneural mind set should be focused on developing long-term relationships. Do you have time in your schedule or can you utilize staff (or family members) to handle it for you?  - If there are things that can be delegated to anyone with the time and energy to help you out, then now is the time to take advantage of this. They can help with generating interesting networking ideas. They can do some of the leg ...

book review

Purple Snowflake Marketing recently received a 5 star rating !! ...and this awesome review: "Purple is my favorite color and Purple Snowflake Marketing is my favorite marketing book that I've ever read!  Writing has been one of my passions since early childhood, and learning the other skills necessary to actually get a book published has been a fun adventure, but marketing has not come so naturally.  In the face of this big challenge, I appreciated reading a book by authors who have walked this road, sharing their insight, experience and practical advice that any author can implement.  I especially appreciated the tax tips and the chapter on building an audience.  Excited to work on my business and marketing plan for the book I published last month based on everything I learned from the Brummets!" Understanding Self-Employment

Whether you have published one book, sold a few pieces of art, run a blog, teach others, offer creative crafts, or write articles… whatever you do as a self-employed person it is vital to run this as a real business. You have to learn how to schedule activities and stick to the schedule, while being somewhat flexible too. Querying and marketing, record keeping, managing the blog, bookkeeping and tax prep, shopping for supplies and cleaning will all need to be added to the schedule. Communications too can eat a surprising amount of time. Writers, especially free-lance writers, learn to send multiple queries for different topics out at a time so they can have a steady stream of income. As such there is a lot of behind-the-scenes activity in running a business.  Visit Amazon to find this, and other books, by the Brummets It is vital to have a love of learning and to relish multi-tasking. When first starting out it is important to read every book one can find on the many aspects of the...

Understanding Business Basics (part 4)

This is the fourth and final installment in this particular series of articles.  Earlier in August I was inspired to create a 4 part article series offering thought-provoking steps to developing your business and creating an effective marketing plan. This series is, in fact, based on the first section of the Purple Snowflake Marketing book of ours - I'll share more info about the book at the end of this piece.  Today I'll be sharing a few more homework assignments for you to continue this journey.  Extra Homework Assignment #1: Schedule a one-hour session per week and use that time to begin scrolling through the Brummet's Conscious Blog archives to find interviews with entrepreneurs, marketing experts, authors, poets, bloggers, podcast hosts, publishers, agents ...and many others. Each interview will offer insight, resources, advice, tips that could benefit you.   Might as well learn from the experts, right? For those involved in the writing industry, look for ...

Greater Return On Queries

Attain Greater Returns On Queries One of the hardest things for entrepreneurs is getting the word out about their work. Marketing is by far the greatest challenge we all face and we are constantly looking for different ways of going about it. Getting media exposure is a huge part of this, but how does your query stand out among the snowstorm of other communications that they receive? Have drafts written for various types of communications that you commonly have going on to save time, but avoid sending the draft letter without editing it first. You can tweak these drafts to target the person you are connecting with. If you are not getting responses from the queries than it is likely the query itself that needs work. After reworking the query, be sure to tweak it for each podcast, blog or magazine contact.  Visit Amazon to find this, and other books, by the Brummets The worst thing one can do when querying members of the media is to communicate in such a way that it basically reads: ...

It is worth it ! In fact you may find it encouraging to know that this time you have invested in researching and doing these homework assignments will result data that can be reused in multiple ways for decades to come. This data will be essential for effective online activities, the wording that you use in posts, articles, advertising and copy writing.
