Some of you may have noticed that our Volunteer page on this blog is no longer there... it actually got hacked somehow due to one of the links going bad or something... Combatting Negativity You may be wondering why we share so many Recommended Resources  and eco-events on our blog. I was recently asked this very question by a member of the media... and there are several reasons.  Firstly, it offers similar organizations to become aware of one another and with the contact information they are able to network, learn from one another and collaborate on projects.  Secondly, it allows volunteers access to new opportunities, new experiences. It also gives those who are involved in fundraising events (or have the ability to donate funds) a chance to make a difference in a variety of ways.  And finally, I believe that we can combat much of the negativity in the world by celebrating all the positive, amazing, wonderful changes that are going on every day.  -- Recommended Resources --  Most of you are already aware that Dave and I donate 10% of the business earnings every year to charities we believe in. Usually Seeds of Diversity, Canadian Wildlife Foundation and whatever local animal shelter needs the most help in our area. We also made a pact to honor anyone that leaves this life that has had a positive impact on us, by gifting to a charity in their honor. Sadly we had 2 valued people pass on this year, and with this in mind we secured an endangered seed variety from ever going extinct through the Seeds of Diversity org ( Seeds.ca ). We also donated to the local bird sanctuary (Creston Wildlife Management - CrestonWildlife.ca ) and pet shelter (PAWS - paws-crestonbc.org  ).  Over the years we've done our best to celebrate and expand the reach of hundreds of other non-profit, charitable organizations that awe us with the work they do. " ~ William Ellery Channing -- Positive News --  Kudo's to Austria Glass Recycling (a non-profit organization based in Australia) who recycled more glass in 2013 than any other year since the country began glass recycling more than 35 years ago.  More than 234,000 tons of glass was collected for recycling, an increase of more than 3,500 tons from the previous year (2012)... which averages out to about 26.8 kg per person.  It is encouraging to see the incredible support people give the recycling industry and proves that with education we become more willing to participate religiously.
