Understanding Self-Employment

Whether you have published one book, sold a few pieces of art, run a blog, teach others, offer creative crafts, or write articles… whatever you do as a self-employed person it is vital to run this as a real business. You have to learn how to schedule activities and stick to the schedule, while being somewhat flexible too. Querying and marketing, record keeping, managing the blog, bookkeeping and tax prep, shopping for supplies and cleaning will all need to be added to the schedule. Communications too can eat a surprising amount of time. Writers, especially free-lance writers, learn to send multiple queries for different topics out at a time so they can have a steady stream of income. As such there is a lot of behind-the-scenes activity in running a business.  Visit Amazon to find this, and other books, by the Brummets It is vital to have a love of learning and to relish multi-tasking. When first starting out it is important to read every book one can find on the many aspects of the...

World Of Writing - Author Interview

Loyal readers are already aware that doing interviews has become part of my DNA. (ha ha) It all started when I was a staff writer for an alternative magazine looking at unique individuals doing amazing things. That focus carried on to a radio show that I ran (with Dave behind the scenes) for over 10 years - it aired 3 x per week featuring interviews with guests from across the globe sharing their efforts to make the world a better place. I find interviews can be truly inspirational and a wealth of knowledge gained from the experiences they choose to share... and it is such a great experience for me to have continued on this long-running blog (20 years in May 2024)! Today's featured guest is fellow Canadian author, Chantal Bellehumeur - who has 19 published books of various genres that you can find on Amazon . That is so impressive! Dave and I together have only 6 available, but a trilogy coming out soon... making that 9. And we are exhausted! lol  Chantal has written in many differ...

Understanding Business Basics (part 4)

This is the fourth and final installment in this particular series of articles.  Earlier in August I was inspired to create a 4 part article series offering thought-provoking steps to developing your business and creating an effective marketing plan. Poetry Time

This next poem is excerpted from page 26 of the book  Rhythm & Rhyme   which you can find on Amazon, as part of the  Playing In The Sandbox Of Words , poetry book series: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09YMCRVZ3 Rooted in this Life When it comes to roots I feel I have none… For what roots have I? A mix of mostly unknown European ancestry. A family of loners Misfits are they and I. A look around my home Reveals a close relationship with nature And native roots, a tribal theme Appropriately enough – of unknown origin Favoring purple, deep reds,  greens, brown and blue All colors of nature… What roots have I? * Written in December ’08 during another quiet moment where I look at the contradiction of wanting roots and being scared of having something to lose, of wanting to create a home that reflects myself without out knowing what that might be.  © Lillian Brummet;   Rhythm & Rhyme ~~~   Discover the Brummet's Books on Amazon :  https://...

Recommended Resources

The Recommended Resources series has been published on this blog since we transferred it from the Brummet's Muse biweekly newsletter that ran for 6 years or so. When we closed it down, we decided that the resources were just too amazing not to continue. I have the pleasure of sharing some great resources which can include - positive impact organizations and events, citizen science projects and links to helpful articles. Feel free to check out their websites, and perhaps send them a note of appreciation for what they do. It would, of course, be fantastic if you see a way to network with them or get involved some how, or possibly share their information with your networks. Play On : The first Play On! street hockey tournament was held in Halifax in 2003. Since that time, a total of 179 Play On! events have been held in 41 communities, involving over 2 million participants, spectators, volunteers, and officials. https://www.playon.ca NWST Charitable Foundation has a goal to plant as...
