Words from the Authors

I had the opportunity to re-visit an interview I was invited to do on the Small Talk Podcast  and while listening to it again I discovered this important example below that demonstrates how easy it is to make a difference and benefit financially too.  “ Just like our book titled subtitle says: it is so easy to be green - it really, really is! Start with this household or business project - assign it to someone in your business especially during a slow time - get them to research everything that's going on in your community in regards to take-back programs, recycle facilities, browse for updates to the city recycling information, and learn about all the things that are recyclable, or returnable in your area.  Every area is going to be different based on location and variety of other things and so find out what you can do with the waste that you produce. Maximizing on what is already available to you. Then look at other things like just changing out your light bulbs to more...

Positive News

Sam Bentley’s channel focuses on sharing positive news.  Here he is featuring the Buy Food With Plastic organization, operates in several poverty-stricken areas - paying people to collect plastic bottles and bring them to the centre for a free meal.  They employ people to sort the materials and turn it into value-add products – which pays for the wages and the food. This impact of this organization is wide: with over 102,523 meals served to those who would have otherwise gone hungry - but also removing 42 million plastic bottles from the environment and creating 106 jobs. Easy Green Living Tips

Easy Green Living Tips The most common mistake we make is not understanding exactly what is going on in our area in regards to waste management, recycling and take-back programs. The best thing to do is once ever couple of months assign a project to a staff member, or a grandchild when they are visiting - to double check and see what has changed in regards to the recycling and take-back programs in our region, because it is changing and improving all the time.  The city will have a website where you can find current programs listed. However, you'll need to dig a little deeper too.  There could be companies that have take-back programs that are not necessarily a part of the city's waste management programs.  Become familiar with your suppliers, retailers that you shop at regularly and learn what they are doing to be more sustainable.  Take the time to get to know your mechanic, friends with workshops, programs happening in the community to find out what they might nee...

Book Review !!

A big hug of appreciation goes out to Kiki and Gary Towne who rated our Trash Talk - It's Easy To Be Green series as 5.0 out of 5 stars on Amazon.ca (Canada) on Oct 17, 2023.  Thanks guys! We sure appreciate it!!  The book review titled "Cumulative Change" is shared below: "My husband, who grumpily takes up the daily mantle of “recycling police” for our own condo building as well as those of his clients, sees this book as his rule book.  Many of us (unfortunately not all of us) know that modern society must make huge changes in order to alter our dangerous and cumulative trajectory regarding how we as a species fail to properly take care of the planet where we live. If we just wait for big government and big corporations to “do the right thing,” there would likely be little change, even with some political activism.  Although we like the idea (at least in theory) of protecting our home planet for ourselves and future generations, we as a people actually fall deepe...

Trash Talk - It's Easy To Be Green 's new cover !!

Announcing a new book cover design... Trash Talk - It's Easy To Be Green  covers a lot of ground from explaining the recycling industry, sharing inspiring information, offering ways to reduce waste via reconsidering, rethinking, recycling, reducing, repurposing and other 'r's. Did you know that people benefit from trash? Well they do, and you can help your community so easily.  Did you know that Dave Brummet is the nephew of Tony Brummet , former environment minister. Cool, eh?  The Trash Talk series was inspired by a column we ran for about 6 years or so and because of this we earned acknowledgements and awards from many environmental organizations including the Recycling Council of BC , and a special letter from the premier of BC for being " community heroes ".  We certainly don't feel like heroes but it was really nice to get those awards.   Find The Series:  (US) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09YC64SB7 (USA) (Canada) https://www.amazon.ca/gp/...

Replace Roof With New Solar Panels?

Should You Replace the Roof When Installing Solar Panels * Written by Edmund Brunetti Homeowners around the world are making a pivotal change to their homes - solar panels. These systems last for over two or three decades with proper maintenance, generating a lot of savings during that time. Because these systems are so long-lasting, many homeowners question the impact that solar panel installation will have on their existing roofing. How will it hold up as time goes on? What if the roof needs to be replaced and solar panels need to be removed then reinstalled? Let's look at some of the questions you may have about getting solar installation on Mornington Peninsula. Should the roof get replaced before getting solar panels installed? Before getting solar installation, Mornington Peninsula homes will need to have a thorough inspection of the roof conducted to ensure that it will be able to withstand the introduction of solar panels. This is especially true if you have had your roof f...

eco-Office tips

BrummetMedia.ca Eco-Office tips  Nearly every office, be it commercial or home-based, has areas of inefficiency that can be improved upon. Not all paper work and receipts need to be shredded, but sometimes, for the sake of security, it is necessary. This shredded paper is recyclable or it can be contributed in layers to a compost or worm bin. It can also be donated to animal shelters where it is used to keep the bottom of cages clean. This simple donation will ease workloads on the volunteer staff while keeping operational costs down, and the animals more comfortable in their cages. The animal waste along with the bedding is easily composted, as you would any other manure. Technology now makes it possible to save paper on a daily basis by sending emails, the occasional fax, video calling and texting. It is hard to imagine these days just how much time was spent when we were forced to make phone calls and use the slow postal system. The expectation of such technology was t...
