Words from the Authors

I had the opportunity to re-visit an interview I was invited to do on the Small Talk Podcast  and while listening to it again I discovered this important example below that demonstrates how easy it is to make a difference and benefit financially too.  “ Just like our book titled subtitle says: it is so easy to be green - it really, really is! Start with this household or business project - assign it to someone in your business especially during a slow time - get them to research everything that's going on in your community in regards to take-back programs, recycle facilities, browse for updates to the city recycling information, and learn about all the things that are recyclable, or returnable in your area.  Every area is going to be different based on location and variety of other things and so find out what you can do with the waste that you produce. Maximizing on what is already available to you. Then look at other things like just changing out your light bulbs to more...

review for our green-living book series

Trash Talk - a green-living book series We love hearing feedback from our happy readers ! Find the Series:  (US) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09YC64SB7 (Canada) https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B09YC64SB7   “  I came across Trash Talk - Book#1: It’s Easy To Be Green and was immediately impressed by how approachable and empowering the book is. Your central idea that trash is not just waste, but a valuable resource reframes sustainability in a way that feels practical, hopeful, and achievable for everyday readers. What truly stands out is how actionable the content is. The A–Z list of commonly discarded items and the creative ways to repurpose them makes it easy for readers to start making changes right away. Rather than focusing on guilt or extremes, you emphasize conscious choices, saving money, and measurable impact showing that even small efforts can make a meaningful difference over time. Trash Talk goes beyond simple recycling by encouraging readers to rethink h...

Easy Green Living Tips

Easy Green Living Tips The most common mistake we make is not understanding exactly what is going on in our area in regards to waste management, recycling and take-back programs. The best thing to do is once ever couple of months assign a project to a staff member, or a grandchild when they are visiting - to double check and see what has changed in regards to the recycling and take-back programs in our region, because it is changing and improving all the time.  The city will have a website where you can find current programs listed. However, you'll need to dig a little deeper too.  There could be companies that have take-back programs that are not necessarily a part of the city's waste management programs.  Become familiar with your suppliers, retailers that you shop at regularly and learn what they are doing to be more sustainable.  Take the time to get to know your mechanic, friends with workshops, programs happening in the community to find out what they might nee...

Book Review !!

A big hug of appreciation goes out to Kiki and Gary Towne who rated our Trash Talk - It's Easy To Be Green series as 5.0 out of 5 stars on Amazon.ca (Canada) on Oct 17, 2023.  Thanks guys! We sure appreciate it!!  The book review titled "Cumulative Change" is shared below: "My husband, who grumpily takes up the daily mantle of “recycling police” for our own condo building as well as those of his clients, sees this book as his rule book.  Many of us (unfortunately not all of us) know that modern society must make huge changes in order to alter our dangerous and cumulative trajectory regarding how we as a species fail to properly take care of the planet where we live. If we just wait for big government and big corporations to “do the right thing,” there would likely be little change, even with some political activism.  Although we like the idea (at least in theory) of protecting our home planet for ourselves and future generations, we as a people actually fall deepe...

Trash Talk - It's Easy To Be Green 's new cover !!

Announcing a new book cover design... Trash Talk - It's Easy To Be Green  covers a lot of ground from explaining the recycling industry, sharing inspiring information, offering ways to reduce waste via reconsidering, rethinking, recycling, reducing, repurposing and other 'r's. Did you know that people benefit from trash? Well they do, and you can help your community so easily.  Did you know that Dave Brummet is the nephew of Tony Brummet , former environment minister. Cool, eh?  The Trash Talk series was inspired by a column we ran for about 6 years or so and because of this we earned acknowledgements and awards from many environmental organizations including the Recycling Council of BC , and a special letter from the premier of BC for being " community heroes ".  We certainly don't feel like heroes but it was really nice to get those awards.   Find The Series:  (US) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09YC64SB7 (USA) (Canada) https://www.amazon.ca/gp/...

I absolutely adored this discussion on Nancy Guitar's Small Talk Youtube Channel -  This was such a great conversation about living green!  A topic I adore, and her condo building should be commended for the green and conscious policies it has in place 🙂 Kudos to them!!! Wouldn't it be great if the committee did end up allowing more green spaces on people's balconies! The steps they've taken are already inspiring... https://youtu.be/ZcHhNhKnzKk   🙂 I hope our listeners are as moved as I was by this discussion and if they want to find out more on this topic simply browse the previously published posts here on this blog. World Water Day

World Water Day  World Water Day was set aside by the UN to highlight the importance of clean fresh water. Events focus on water conservation, education, sustainable projects for the management of fresh water resources, beach clean up projects and river-side replanting projects, and invasive species volunteer groups heading out to eradicate unwanted plants that will choke out native species. The first World Water Day was officially held in 1993 and is now celebrated across the planet. Consider picking up a copy of our Trash Talk book series which addresses many ways of conserving the amount of water we use, reusing old water and reducing water use. For instance, one might save the water from cooking potatoes; once cool, it can be used to feed outdoor plants.  Hot water from the canner can be used to kill weeds in the driveway, gravel walkways and sidewalks. Refuse to buy bottled water and instead buy several refillable ones. Install a water purifier machine under ...

Effective Watering Techniques

Effective Watering Techniques  * by Lauren Thomas Watering the garden is one of those things that many gardeners think they are getting right, but they probably are not. The most common mistake that gardeners make is watering their plants too quickly. Typically gardeners might either turn on a sprinkler system or just use a hose. They see puddles of water everywhere and think they are getting the job done, but in reality water is being wasted and it's not even making it down deep to the plant's roots. What's really happening is that the water is being spread out due to runoff. When water is applied too quickly the soil doesn't have a chance to soak it in. So the water that can't be soaked in gets spread to surrounding areas.  Instead of the water only being used for the intended plant, it spreads out and waters weeds. This can waste quite a bit of your gardening time, because you'll be spending it weeding.  With this big mess of water everywhere...
