A Word From The Authors

I had the opportunity to re-visit an interview I was invited to do on the  Advisor Podcast    and while listening to it again I discovered this important part of the discussion below about surrounding oneself with positivity in order to heal, recover strength and become our own friend.  “It was always striving for tomorrow – but at that point we stopped that thinking entirely.  We realized that every breath ever moment right now is the golden moment and there is no guarantee that there will be another one. And there is no quarantine that even if we make it to those so called ‘golden years’ that they will be golden. So we are living right now – right now – today. We doubled down on our passions: creating positive change, getting involved in nonprofits, changing our entire life to a more positive, a sustainable eco-friendly lifestyle.”  https://www.spreaker.com/episode/embracing-resilience-a-guide-to-overcoming-grief-and-sadness--52898603 ~~~   ...

Do The Purge

Back in August I started a series of articles about getting through darkness whether it be caused by stress, anxiety, chronic pain, illness, grief or depression.  Looking back on my life-long struggle with darkness, I could see a pattern - and by taking tiny steps toward positivity I could slowly drag myself out of the depths of the darkness and the heavy suction pull of its vacuum.  This series that I started back in August (2024) share these tiny steps that lead toward positivity. Feel free to scroll back, August - present day, to find more articles like this. Do The Purge Sharing how we feel can seem like we are imposing on others. We don't want to bring them down into the dumps with us, that is for sure. We don't want to get them worried about us, regularly expressing concern for us after we unload on them.  Sharing can be difficult simply because it is hard to put how we are feeling in word format.  One of the tricks I learned was simply purging how I felt in on...

Break The Pattern

Back in August I started a series of articles about getting through darkness whether it be caused by stress, anxiety, chronic pain, illness, grief or depression.  Looking back on my life-long struggle with darkness, I could see a pattern - by taking tiny steps toward positivity and I could slowly drag myself out of the depths of the darkness and the heavy suction pull of its vacuum.  This series that I started back in August (2024) share these tiny steps that lead toward positivity. Feel free to scroll back, August - present day, to find more articles like this. Break The Pattern Sadly when we are going through stress, anxiety, chronic pain, anger or insomnia, depression or grief... when we are going through that we tend to do so alone. We hide how we are feeling from others. We don't want to impose. We don't want to weight them down.  ...We don't want them to hold us accountable either. We fear judgement, we can't trust our bodies, and we fear estrangement. Being in da...

Cut Out The Negativity

Back in August I started a series of articles about getting through darkness whether it be caused by stress, anxiety, chronic pain, illness, grief or depression.  Looking back on my own struggle with darkness, I could see a pattern - by taking tiny steps toward positivity and I could slowly drag myself out of the depths of the darkness and the heavy suction pull of its vacuum.  Today we continue this discussion with another simple positive habit for you, along with a few examples to help you apply it to your own daily life. Cut Out The Negativity When darkness comes in to our lives it is important to cut negative things out. Especially when we are easily triggered and feel vulnerable, susceptible to negativity. We can change this simply by feeding our minds with positivity, and eradicating anything negative.  Embrace Silence  Keep the device controls handy so that you can silence ads by pressing mute and wait patiently for them to end. Get out of the rut - Tip #4

Depression, grief, anger, frustration, insomnia, physical pain... it adds up and we can easily fall into negative habits that keep us in a rut that is super hard to get out of. Today we continue the conversation of taking small, very small steps toward positive change. So we started the first week by getting up just 10 minutes early, and spending that time with ourselves. Then we decided to dress a little nicer, or wear something goofy until we needed to change for work or messy chores. Next we started the positive habit of drinking water at specific times of the day. Today we'll start taking our daily multi-vitamin.  Most of us are deficient in one vitamin or mineral or other and don't even know it. Long term deficiency can lead to minor, annoying issues like itching skin, restless legs, or unsettled tummies. But over time these can grow into big, and even major health and behavioural issues.  Taking a daily vitamin can help balance the body throughout the day, ensuring that ...

Get out of the rut ...Tip #3

Today we carry on the conversation of using very small, simple changes that lead to creating positive habits, which will lift you out of the rut, the depression, the grief that you are currently experiencing.  So you are getting up just a little bit earlier than usual, spending time with yourself for those few minutes and giving yourself a lift by wearing something nicer, more cheerful, or goofy. You might guess the next tip... Drink a glass of water when you wake up, another about 1/2 hour before consuming a meal, and again drink another glass of water about an hour before bed time. Water is fantastic flushing mechanism, taking poisons and toxins out of the body, improving the condition of our skin. But it is also a carrier - it helps carry nutrients to other areas of the body.  Drinking water at those specific times will improve our health, help us reduce weight gain and have a more focused mind.  ~~~     Follow & Find Books:   on Amazon Visit: ...

Get Out Of The Rut ...Tip #2

Get Out Of The Rut ...Tip #2 In our previous discussion on July 24th, we began the new habit of getting up 10 minutes early and using that time to just be, to breathe, to enjoy a cup of coffee and to focus on nothing but the view, the way the light plays on the wall.  Today we will think about expanding upon this new positive habit.  The next step is to simply get dressed.  Whether it is a day off or you are headed to work... dress up a little. Wear something nice even if it means you have to change before starting on the messy chores planned for that day. We are not talking here about wearing church clothes and fancy dresses. If the first of the day involves messy things like feeding kids, well then wait until those activities are done and then change into something nicer. Doing so will make you feel just a little bit better. Choose that t-shirt without stains that you have been avoiding wearing because it is a nice one.  Wear those nice track pants instead of the s...

Get Out Of The Rut - Tip #1

As I write this today my neighbour has 2 police vehicles and an ambulance outside their home, and memories come crashing back to me of before... times when that big elephant weight of grief, of loss, of panic and confusion step on your chest - taking away the ability to breathe.  My heart goes out to my neighbours and I hope they get the help they need. I don't know yet what is happening over there but for this to happen now, as I write on the topic of overcoming the depth of depression and climbing out of emotional ruts, well... perhaps this means that I need this series right now too.  This is the first of maybe five posts offering simple tips to bring light into the darkest times, the deepest depression, the weight of grief, and quieten the inner critic, judge and victim voices.  So here we go... Tip #1 There is one single thing that we have to become aware of, to acknowledge, when we are in this state of mind... which is - that we need to break the routine.  We h...
